We hope you’re wearing blue! Lets make it “A Better Jamaica – Peace by Peace!”

Since 1996 the first Tuesday in March has been recognised as Peace Day.

This year, under the theme “A Better Jamaica – Peace by Peace”, some 20 schools in the downtown Kingston area will be staging a peace walk to the St William Grant Park where a free concert will be held for participating schools and students.

Speaking with The Gleaner about this year’s initiative, Janilee Abrikian, general manager at Peace and Love in Society (PALS) Jamaica, urged Jamaicans to not only observe peace today, but to think about peace throughout the year.

“What we are doing here is promoting peace that Jamaica desperately needs. Spend the time thinking about peace, let it not just be a day, let peace be a staple with all of us throughout the year,” Abrikian said.

Among the day’s activities, PALS has distributed Peace Day ribbons to schools islandwide and, in keeping with tradition, encouraged the public to wear blue.
