Under the new system which takes full effect today, private bus operators will not be able to operate unless their buses are painted yellow.

They are also expected to issue tickets to passengers and charge the same fares as the JUTC.

Communications Manager at the bus company Clinton Clarke, reiterates that those operators who do not meet the requirements will not be allowed to operate.

He is confident that the JUTC will be able to meet the demand of the commuting public in the absence of some sub-franchise operators.

He says the company does not anticipate any challenges that it will not be able to handle.

Up to last night, only 129 of the 319 operators who were granted licences had their buses painted yellow.

Clarke says the JUTC’s monitoring unit, along with the police and personnel from the Transport Authority will be out on the roads to ensure the new rules are enforced.
